Lacrosse Falls to No. 3 Albany, 16-13

Philadelphia – The Drexel men's lacrosse team came back from a four-goal deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but Albany rallied to defeat the Dragons, 16-13, The third-ranked Great Danes improved to 5-0 on the season, while Drexel fell to 4-3.
Drexel trailed for most of the game, but remained in striking distance. Early in the fourth quarter, the Dragons scored three-straight goals to tie the game at 10-10. Colin Ambler, Andrew Champan and Ron Garling scored in a span of just over two minutes to even the score. Albany scored the next two goals as Derek Dale scored at the 11:35 mark to put the Great Danes up by a goal. Corey Small then added the 12th goal with 9:41 remaining. Drexel cut the lead to 12-11 when Mike Filippone set up Brian Neary's goal, but Albany answered with four-straight goals to go up 16-11.
Albany jumped out to a 3-1 lead and never trailed in the game. They took an 8-5 lead to intermission.
Garling, who had a career-high five goals in the game, added two goals after Albany's run to make it 16-13 with 2:28 to play, but the Dragons were unable to chip away in the final minutes.
Small had a big game for Albany with five goals. Jordan Levine netted three and handed out an assist. Dale and Frank Resetarits each found the net twice. Brett Queener played well in the cage and made 11 saves.
Chapman scored four times for the Dragons. Neary had a pair and Filippone dished out two assists. Bruce Bickford turned aside five shots in a losing cause. The Dragons outshot Albany, 46-36, and won 22 of the 32 face-offs. Drexel had 35 ground balls, while the Great Danes picked up 32.
The game, originally scheduled for Vidas Field, was moved to Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania due to weather conditions. The temperature was in the 20s and there were snow flurries throughout the contest.
The Dragons host Lafayette on Saturday at 3:00 p.m at Vidas Field.
